A group of delegates from the University of Melbourne visited Hokkaido University on 27th June. This group included the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, faculty Deans and researchers.

Upon visiting the International Institute for Zoonosis Control, Professor Kida gave a presentation about the Institute and an outline of our research activities. Following that, Professor Sawa and Dr. Sekiya took them on tour of our laboratories and other facilities.

The delegates also visited the Center for Environmental and Health Science, the Graduate School of Engineering, the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, and the Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere. The aim was to discuss the beginnings of collaborative research and education.

Their visit was followed that night by a dinner party and award ceremony for the “Hokkaido- Melbourne Joint Research Workshop Fund 2022”. Professor Kida enjoyed the dinner and pleasant talks with the University of Melbourne delegation, especially with Vice-Chancellor Duncan Maskell whose research specializes in bacterial infections in livestock and Deputy Vice-Chancellor James McCluskey whose research area is the immune system.
