The Tenth Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses

The Tenth Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses with the aim of sharing research progress and strengthening inter-university collaborations was held on October 17th and 18th, 2022 via Zoom.

The total number of attendees was 87, including 22 researchers from the University of Melbourne, University College Dublin, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, as well as 65 faculty members and postdoctoral researchers who were affiliated with either the International Institute for Zoonoses Control or the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

It was opened with which Prof. Kida welcomed the participants and thanked their continued collaboration over ten years. He also mentioned the current situation where COVID-19 had not yet converged and called attention to antigenic variants of SARS-CoV2 that could emerge one after another.

Over two-day meetings, presenters reported their ongoing research findings related to overcoming various zoonotic diseases caused by viruses and parasites, followed by active discussion. The covered types of research ranged from basic, epidemiological to social implementation research; among them, as if to reflect Prof. Kida’s beginning remarks, cutting-edge research in COVID-19 stepped into the spotlight.

The meeting served as a great opportunity to acknowledge the importance of continued promotion towards “elucidation of the route of transmission”, “elucidation of pathogenesis”, “development of measures for diagnosis and prevention”, and “development of new diagnostics”.
