The Twelveth Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses

The Twelveth Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses was held on 2nd and 3rd of December at the Lecture Building of Veterinary Medicine, Hokkaido University (HU) and via Zoom. The meeting was held jointly by the International Institute for Zoonosis Control (IIZC) and the Institute for Vaccine Research and Development (IVReD) like we did last year. The total attendees were 281 over two days, including not only 10 researchers from the University of Melbourne (UM), University College Dublin (UCD), King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), but also 123 graduate students affiliated with Graduate School of Infectious Diseases.

As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the “Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses” with UM, UCD and KAUST and HU, certificates of appreciation plaque in commemoration of the 10 years involvement with IIZC were given by Professor Kida to overseas researchers. After the ceremony, the presentations regarding ongoing advanced research on Zoonosis Control were delivered by 15 researchers including 8 world-leading researchers from overseas universities over two days. The meeting covered four different topics: influenza and Covid-19 vaccine and host response, bacterial infections, virus and prion infections, and genome analysis. These presentations were followed by active question and answer sessions. The meeting provided a meaningful opportunity to confirm our continuous promotion of basic research, applied research and clinical research for the control of zoonoses and to strengthen international collaboration with overseas universities.
