The Seventh Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses

The Seventh Meeting of the Consortium for the Control of Zoonoses was held on July 11th and 12th, 2019 at the Research Center for Zoonosis Control, Hokkaido University.  Presentations were divided into the following five sessions: Epidemiology, Basic Research, Immunology, Vaccine and Drug Development and Diagnosis and Genomics.

The symposium was attended by 166 people and 22 researchers, including 5 researchers from the University of Melbourne, 3 researchers from University College Dublin and 1 researcher from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology presented the progress of the ongoing international collaborative research of the GI-CoRE project over the five years since it began in April 2014.  These presentations were followed by an active question and answer session and productive discussion of the future objectives.

The stimulating presentations and in-depth discussion from scientists with expertise in diverse areas of infectious disease attending the symposium served to strengthen the international collaborative relationships that have now been forged between the four universities. Future plans in basic, applied and clinical research were established for the control of zoonoses with the expectation that collaborative research will develop further to build on the successful achievements to date.
